This highly experiential workshop will involve a combination of didactics, modelling, and hands on practice of specific Selective Mutism skills. Attendees will be coached live by experts while role playing scenarios that children typically face.
Workshop Learning Objectives
- Understand the behavioural conceptualization of the development of Selective Mutism and the rationale behind this treatment approach
- Learn how to identify and demonstrate warm-up skills (Child Directed Interactions) in the treatment of Selective Mutism
- Understand and be able to demonstrate the concept of stimulus fading
- Learn how to identify and demonstrate questions that increase the likelihood of verbal responding (Verbal Directed Interactions)
Recommended Attendees
Education and Mental Health Professionals who work with children with Selective Mutism Disorder including, but not limited to psychologists, clinical counsellors, school counsellors, speech-language pathologists, classroom teachers, and caregivers.
