• Ensure participants understand the general principles of law governing documentation, confidentiality and disclosure of patient or client information.
• Demystify the overlapping obligations of treatment, counselling and care professionals under the common law, the Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004 and other provincial legislation.
• Provide the participants with a framework for analyzing their legal obligations regarding the disclosure of confidential patient or client information.
• Review the mandatory reporting obligations that apply to the participants, and potential civil liability for breaching the duty to warn in Canada.
• Ensure that the participants can anticipate and avoid common legal problems.
