Canadian Red Cross. North Simcoe Muskoka Branch. Barrie Office, RespectED Violence and Abuse Prevention Program |
The mission and overall goal of the RespectED program is to break the cycle of abuse, neglect, harassment, and interpersonal violence through prevention education, and in so doing, to promote safe, respectful and supportive relationships for individuals within the family and within the community.
The program currently focuses on youth who are at risk for experiencing emotional, physical and/or sexual maltreatment. Trained Prevention Educators deliver workshops and training events to a variety of groups. Youth presentations include 'It's Not Your Fault' (child/youth maltreatment prevention) and 'What's Love Got To Do With It?' (relationship violence prevention). The secondary mandate is to promote safe communities for youth through educating adults.
Walking the Prevention Circle is a unique program for Aboriginal communities and delivered by Aboriginal Prevention Educators.
RespectED is a community-based, volunteer-driven program.
