Service is determined by examination of needs and may be provided through individual and/or group support. Behaviour intervention is provided through a comprehensive evaluation followed by positive-based teaching and programming. A full range of challenging needs are addressed and include general management, aggression, self injury, skill promotion and social problem solving.
Behaviour Management Services, established in 1977, is a department of York Central Hospital, Mental Health Program. This department provides behavioural services to individuals who have a developmental disability with a significant cognitive delay. The individual may also have a mental health issue combined with a developmental disability and a cognitive delay (dual diagnosis). Service is provided through a mediator model to the individual and significant people in the individual's life. Behaviour Management Services is fully funded by the Ministry of Social Services through a service agreement with York Central Hospital. Resource services provided through educational workshops and lectures.
Referral - self; By telephone or in writing; Referral - with individual's consent; Family members; Community Agencies; Teachers; Medical; Professionals. A referral package will be sent out and an intake meeting will be scheduled to gather more information and determine the most appropriate services.
